There are literally hundreds of major strains of guppies, all descended from the common form of the fish. Most of the strains shown here simply describe specific attributes of the body; certain colors, patterns, shapes, or degrees of opacity. The more elaborate strains have exacting attributes for the entire body (including fins).
Guppy Strain - Full
This is any guppy which has the same color over the entire body. So a "Full Red" (probably the best known strain) is entirely red.
Guppy Strain - Half Black (aka "HB")
This describes a coloration where the entire fish is black except for the head and front of the body.
Guppy Strain - Ribbon Tail
Ribbon tails have long flowing fins that end in uneven fringes. This one is an albino strain.
Guppy Strain - Moscow
Full black with colored highlights, Moscows are one of the most popular (but hard to find) strains. It originated from a Russian breeder in the 60s.
Guppy Strain - Snakeskin
Snakeskin coloration shows wiggling lines over a semi-transparent body.
Guppy Strain - Glass
Glass bodies are simply transparent or semi-transparent with color.
Guppy Strain - Delta Tail
Delta guppies are those with broad draping causal fins that spread out in a delta (triangular shape) from the back of the fish.
Guppy Strain - Galaxy
Galaxy types have a spotted pattern over their entire body, including fins.
Guppy Strain - Mosaic
Mosaics have large splotches of color on the body and patterned tails.
Guppy Strain - Swallow Tail
Swallow tails are similar to ribbon tails but the fringes are more elaborate. Pictured above is an albino version of a swallow tail.
Guppy Strain - Tuxedo
Tuxedo coloration is a body half black (on the back end) with non-black colored fins that match each other.
Guppy Strain - Swordtail
Delta guppies are those with broad draping causal fins that spread out in a delta (triangular shape) from the back of the fish.
Guppy Strain - Lyre Tail
Delta guppies are those with broad draping causal fins that spread out in a delta (triangular shape) from the back of the fish.
Guppy Strain - Cobra
Delta guppies are those with broad draping causal fins that spread out in a delta (triangular shape) from the back of the fish.
Guppy Strain - Rainbow
